Twitter Offers Access To Additional APIs To Solve Pricing Concerns

It is no secret that shortly after Twitter provided API access to its users, it reported an increase in costs. As a result, the entire developer community was in angst.

However, the micro-blogging website has now come up with a new tier to provide API access. This has been created to offer greater tweet access at a reasonable price.

It was further revealed that the new Pro offering will give developers access to no less than a million tweets in a month. They will only have to pay $5K every month or $60K per year.

This is said to be an improvement from the old plan, whose access points already priced various academics and developers out of their different projects.

Even so, people are of the opinion that $5K a month for only a million tweets is a substantial amount. This is especially because up until February of this year, developers had access to free APIs of Twitter and did not have to pay any fee.

The new charges for API access are being charged by the micro-blogging website in order to fight the various bot armies that have popped up.

These are also important because the new APIs are a significant improvement, particularly when it comes to costs.

Currently, it has also been reported that Elon and Co. are trying their best to ensure that additional revenue rolls into the company.

Due to the updated pricing, several public service tools, such as transport alerts, sent out their own announcements.

They explained that they will be moving towards canceling the automated Twitter updates that they send.

On the other hand, the micro-blogging website has announced that approved services such as these will be able to gain access to the API and bear no cost at all.

Even then, this offer will not be able to cover a number of bot services and tools, which provide significant value.

Moreover, there is risk in the approach being used by Twitter, which could cause it to become a less valuable utility. Consequently, this will have a negative impact on usage.

But it has been noted that API is viewed as a potential vector solely for bot swarms by Musk.

Same as he did with Twitter Blue, the CEO of Tesla is hoping that additional charges on access will prevent bot creators from using their schemes. Thus, he is aiming to ensure that this action is cost-prohibitive.

As of now, there are several other potential considerations present in APIs and the rise in access prices. But these are more aligned with the personal grievances of Musk.

The micro-blogging website has also decided to take on Microsoft to address its use of the data extracted from Twitter, through API access.

According to Twitter, this data lies over and above the limitations that have been imposed on the approved usage by Microsoft.

Currently, Microsoft has joined hands with OpenAI, which once had a significant investment from Musk himself.
