Meta Announces Upcoming Release Of Its Twitter Alternative

In recent news, Meta has announced that its clone app of Twitter is closer to being launched. Chris Cox, the executive of Meta, shared this information during an all-staff internal meeting.

According to him, the text-based feed website of Meta will be referred to as P92. However, in other leaked pieces of information, it could also be called Barcelona.

It is likely to be a straight feed and consists of text updates. Users will also be able to add videos and messages to their feeds.

Where the main page of the website is concerned, it will look more or less like a DM thread. People will be able to reply and expand other people’s replies beneath the main update.

In addition, a small bubble will appear beside the profile icons. They will indicate which user has replied to whom.

There may even be four tabs in the app for the alternative, which will include a main feed, favorites, explore, and, lastly, a profile.

The middle button on the app will be used as a composer window so people can add their own posts in the form of texts, videos, and images.

The latest screenshots that the company shared with the internal staff are somewhat different from the ones it shared with the creators of the app.

People are unsure of what the new changes may be but believe that the different appearances could be a result of the presentation being shown in OS.

According to Cox, the app has been created with the purpose of being a response and an alternative to the micro-blogging website.

Moreover, he also criticized the way Elon Musk is running the management. In his words, the CEO of Tesla is only disrupting the app.

In the words of the executive of Meta, he received requests from public figures and creators to develop a separate platform that is not disruptive.

Thus, the company decided to create an app and a website that people could rely upon and put their trust in for the purpose of distribution.

There is also the possibility of the app being finally called Threads when it is launched. However, Instagram did use the same name for another app before, but it badly failed.

Back in 2019, Threads was released as a spin-off app but was shut down in less than two years. Despite the fact that the company can use the name again, experts believe that it may not want to.

Mainly due to the fact that the executives of Meta, superstitious or not, would not want to take the risk of using the name of a failed project.

In addition, it has further been revealed that P29 will use people’s Instagram credentials to log them in, and the new app’s username will also be the same as Instagram’s.

Lastly, posts on P29 will be limited to 500 characters, and the website will be fully decentralized.

It is safe to say that people are excited to see what the new app brings and whether it can give Twitter a run for its money.
