India Becomes Snapchat’s Largest User Market

In recent news, India has become the top market for Snapchat, which was revealed when the company announced that it has more than 200 million people in the country using its app every month.

This means that more than 25% of the entire user base of Snapchat is based in India. As of now, the company has recorded no less than 100 million daily active users from the North American region.

Meanwhile, 93 million users are on the app daily from Europe. This indicates that India serves as the largest user base for the company.

Despite the fact that monthly and daily usage statistics cannot be compared directly, Snapchat has around 383 million users daily and a total of 750 million monthly active users.

Other data extracted from the company has revealed that it has no less than 190 million MAU based in North America and 180 million MAU belonging to the EU, with 21 million being only in the UK.

Consequently, the photo-taking app has more than 380 million MAU in other regions of the world.

But the Indian region takes the biggest chunk of MAU and has quickly increased its numbers on the app. This was especially noted after the country’s government banned the use of TikTok back in 2020.

After TikTok’s access was prevented in India, Instagram is the social media platform that experienced the most success. YouTube also saw a significant increase in views and new joiners.

It was later reported that more than 200 million users from India were still using TikTok when it was banned. However, the rest decided to move to various other social media apps.

Snapchat was among one of those first apps that cast-offs gathered on. The company used this opportunity to enhance its connection with the users, making the most out of the rising connective capacity in the Indian region.

Another factor that has boosted Snap’s popularity is the reformation of its app it has on Android phones. It capitalized on the known fact of Android being the most used and popular OS in the country.

For a long time, the photo-taking app had refrained from updating its app on Android.

A previous employee at the company even revealed that Evan Spiegel, the chief of the company, wanted to exclude India on purpose and a number of different developing markets.

This was mainly due to the chief thinking that there is a lack of revenue potential in these regions. However, he was wrong.

As per a lawsuit, which was filed in 2017, the matter of slow international adoption was brought in during an internal meeting of the company.

At the time, Spiegel had said that this photo-taking app had been designed only for people who are rich, which is why he did not want to spend time and resources trying to expand to poor countries, such as Spain and India.

But when questioned, the chief denied ever saying this. But people have said that his resistance to updating to Android UX made it clear that this was actually his stance.
